When people relocate from one place to another, they might face different levels of challenges depending on whether they are moving to a new city, state or even country. It can get challenging in the beginning as they navigate the new community and adjust to their new setup.Navigating the new community and meeting new friends when people move to a new place is challenging.
I created an end-to-end app for people moving to a new city to customize a welcome package with businesses and activities they are interested in. The app allows users to find different businesses, location and their reviews. The Users also receive discounts from various businesses so they can use them when they visit these businesses for the first time.

I started this project with the goal to understand more about people moving to a new city and how they settle in.
I wanted to know:-
I started by interviewing 5 people who have moved to a new place recently about their experiences and how they settled into their new community. Some common issues identified included:-
I conducted competitive research analysis to see what is already out there. I looked at the features, sign up process and what their strength and weaknesses are.
After surveying the market, I identified three opportunities for Clique:-
After gaining better insights into the needs and pain points of newcomers, I created a persona and a storyboard to generate a deeper understanding of user needs and the common problems people moving to a new place experience when settling down.
I brainstormed potential solutions using 3 how might Clique…’ questions as guide:-
I created a sitemap in order to visualize where content would live within the app.
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Suspendisse varius enim in eros elementum tristique. Duis cursus, mi quis viverra ornare, eros dolor interdum nulla, ut commodo diam libero vitae erat. Aenean faucibus nibh et justo cursus id rutrum lorem imperdiet. Nunc ut sem vitae risus tristique posuere.
I sketched a few concepts of how a user might go about customizing their welcome package. I created different categories with topics. Each topic would contain items for the user to select. After the user goes through all the topics, they can customize their welcome package. The user will receive a customized package together with any discounts offered by businesses. I then translate my sketches into wireframes.
I brainstormed several names for the app and settled on Clique. The same way the newcomer is looking to settle down, they can find things that they clique with using the app. I created a lightbulb logo that matched the name.My color choice was green, orange and shades of brown.
I wanted to use calming colors with good contrast to visually group items into categories. I also thought calm colors that are not competing for attention will make the user feel calm navigating the app, giving them a sense of belonging.
Lastly I curated a set of cohesive icons to represent various category items like plumbing , concerts, automotive services etc.
I conducted usability tests with 16 participants to see if the product meets the needs and expectations of my users and also get user feedback. This was to help me improve the design as per my user expectations.
I used maze as my testing tool.
Tasks Tested:-
-User being able to get a customized package.
-User finding and using their discounts
Testing Results
I applied the branding and UI elements to the wireframes and continued to refine my designs after a round of feedback from peers. I put together a prototype and set out to test it again on more participants.
Once I completed the user testing, I used the feedback received and did revisions on the areas that had the biggest impact . I also tidied up some few details.
During this project, I had a lot of insights and lots of different ways to improve the design. Most especially during the testing and iteration phase, I had a hard time prioritizing what was most important as my initial instincts was to do everything. What helped me is adhering to the time constraints.
I got to see that when I have time constraint, then the prioritization did become easier as I had to choose the most important changes and improvements to implement into my designs.
During the research phase, I learnt that most users have a hard time with figuring out public transportation in their new city.
With more time, I would design a way for users to find relevant information about public transportation.
